Update 9/06 sucks sucks sucks now... such a
let down. food no longer that good. the nice lady no longer there. No real
reason to go no more.
Update 3/06 rumor has it that the owner moved away. and now only one of the
chief stayed
Home style food, for those of us who doesn't know how to
cook it's a cheap place to fill one self up. They offer good variety with
home cooked mid level meals. Slowly adding very authentic and good food.
though I would stay with the Northern dishes since the Chief is from
TianJin. The eel is very good and is killed after
you order, the difference is obvious. It was on the papers not too long ago,
prices are getting higher and more people are there...
虹城 King's Village

Last Visit (Jun/2003)
满怀希望的去,It's sad what passes as Chinese food in New Jersey... Suppose to
be Northern food, but it tasted like dorm food.
好友记 Good Friends

Last Visit (Feb/2003)
Better than happy city, which make this place suitable for human
consumption.
南宝宛

Last Visit (Apr/2004)
Hahaha, what a joke, seriously though, it's
another store for the mid west. I don't get how people can think this place
is good. It's just weird. Waiters seems to be Chinese and there are Chinese
people eating there, but the food is just not even.. (cold shivers).... I
guess if you have high blood pressure this place can be good, since they
treat salt like gold and use it very sparingly if any at all.
Chinese-粤菜
玉蝶轩
Dynasty
Last Visit (Aug/2004)
It's a little far but the food is so so. It's better than
some of the Dim Sum around Princeton, of course. This place still can't
compare with the places in SoCal. The food for lunch was good, Have
more live food than other stores I've visited before in NJ.
皇都 Wonder Seafood

Last Visit (Nov/2006)
So so... I would still go to Phili for this, but if you're close and is by
the area it's a heck of a lot better than Happy City, since they actually
have living tanks... We got the last elephant clam.
KC 海鲜城
Last Visit (Jan/2006)
875 Rt. 1 South, Woodbridge NJ 732-602-2188
Not good, Americanized Cantonese food... They cook with the right stuff,
just not the right taste or the right amounts. Looks impressive from the
outside, take a picture and move on.
快乐城 happy city

Last Visit (Jun/2003)
Southern Chinese foods. The best Chinese food
restaurant with in 5 miles of Princeton U. Which is really not saying much.
The food are certainly what I considered inhuman. Don't go unless you have
to. Drive 1/2 hours to Phili instead.
镁沁 King's Castle

Really don't have much in
terms of variety or quality. We only had dim sum there and it was edible.
Can't compare with those in other cities though.

Well... what should I say... I was in India
all summer and I still didn't think it was anything special... it's around
the same level as 龙园 which is... not saying
all that much... Although I'm not ruling out the possibility that I just
went on the wrong time, 2pm, when the cooks might not be the most ...
awake...

which means edible. But not really a authentic place. That doesn't exist
outside of CA.

龙园 Dragon Palace

Last Visit (Mar/2006)
It's not bad, even though it's one of the better Sichuan restaurants this
coast, I still feel it's been tuned for Western tastes a bit.
四川第一楼

Last Visit (Jun/2006)
Update: a second store has opened in the
Asian food market 美东 plaza in plainsburo. It seems slightly better than the
other one.
OK Szechwan food.
It's above average quality, a few dishes are fairly authentic compared to
what's available On the East coast. Everyone orders 夫妻肺片, which is the
spiciest food there, so... feel my pain...
天府

Last Visit (Feb/2006)
Update: Eat there several times in the summer
of 2005. The food were OK and the service still below par. During one visit
the chef and the owner got in to a loud verbal argument. The food all in all
were above average but there are others on the same level
天福阁
seems to be a better choice if driving from Princeton.
would not even let us in. Just because we arrived 30
minute BEFORE they closed. The Hostess obviously understood Chinese but
started refusing entry to us in English, which is fine by me, since I know
how to scold people better in English anyways. So apparently the kitchen is
shutdown 30 minutes before closing, though you can order takeout. Waiters
speak fluent Chinese but prefers to be rude with broken English. Wouldn't go
again even if the food was authentic.
Chinese-上海菜,南方菜
大上海

Last Visit (Feb/2006)
Not too bad... decent... expensive... as expensive as an upscale stake
house, you know, the kind that have a dress code? the eel could be live..
and is cooked OKly.
大千美食林

Last Visit (July/2005)
239 Raritan Ave, Highland Park, NJ 08904. (732)247-8813
Shanghai style food. not bad, not bad at all. The "live" yellow eel was not
frozen but not freshly killed. Feel a bit cheated but other dishes wasn't
bad. too salty now for some strange reason
Two stores now, the other one is in Princeton
shopping center. edible not great but not too bad.

Yummy food, mostly authentic opens late, good
tapiyoka tea. Like a Chinese cafe on the west coast only less choices.
马来槟城Penang Malaysian Cuisine & Sushi Bar
Last Visit (Dec/2005)
In a word, disappointing. After
eating around here more, it's actually fairly good. But it's one of the
first few Malaysian places went to after coming to Jersey and hence the
disappointment. One store is behind KinMen supermarket on rt1, the
other is in the Wal-Mart parking lot across the Rt1 from mercer mall...
Try Indian bread.

Well, I never liked chinese buffets.. Chinese food are just never meant to
be served that way... but this place does offer variety with some selection
of expensive food and it's
not too expensive...Which make this a place I would recommend but I would
not go.

If you've been to Todai you know this place.
Compare to Minado it does not have the scale, but when there are lots of
people you can still get sashimi and stuff like that. They only had two
kinds and was very crowded on Saturday. Things also tasted better there too
compared to Minado. Though with the noted lacking of Uni and only two tuna
and salmon Sashimi.
Minado
Last Visit (Feb/2006)
If you've been to Todai you know this place. Even the layout is the same.
Fairly good warm dishes and Sushi. The only complaint is the more expensive
dishes, like the lobster, sashimi, and uni are replaced really really slow.
Avoid Friday and Saturday nights, the crowds could be a killer.
Ota Ya

Last Visit (Dec/2005)
It's actually in
Lambertville, NJ. Very good
Japanese food. Tastes great including sushi and sashimi. Other warm foods
are also good. I would go there again. Matches those Japanese restaurants in

Hanchon Korean
Restaurant
Last Visit (Oct/2006)
6783 N. 5th Street,
Phila., PA 19126, (215)4240260
This place seems VERY authentic, it passes all our tests.
All the customers are Korean, the food tastes the same as in Korea.
Absolutely no one in the restaurant speaks any English, which made ordering
an animated affair. Fortunately, the English menu came with pictures and
relatively good English descriptions. The food was fantastic! The Cow bone
soup was to die for! A little hint, when you go in there, just find a table
and sit down. Everyone did that and the waitresses were looking at us weird
for standing and waiting. The BBQ meat were good but a bit expensive, given
the portions.

锦湖 GUM HO JUNG

Last Visit (Jul/2004)
It looks really nice from the outside. So nice that I don't think there's a
need to go in. The food isn't all that bad, just nothing really stands out.
南江 Namkang Korean
Japanese Restaurant

Last Visit (Closed in Jul/2004,

Not bad. Actually the BEST Korean food I've had outside of Korea. Through
I'm not an expert in Korean food, it seems really quite authentic. It fits
most of the criteria for authenticity, namely the waitress/waiter doesn't
speak much English. Very good. It had the
mysterious spicy sauce they have in Korea on
every table. They closed for renovation and will reopen
7/31/04 though I'm writing this in September and last time we checked they
were still closed, so call first.
